Mother Maya

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) - Renowned peace activist, healer and bestselling author Mother Maya brings her four-year long world tour spreading her spiritual teachings on nonviolence to Sruti Berkshire Yoga Center , at 33 Railroad St., in a free talk on Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

Maya Tiwari aka Mother Maya has been traveling the globe on her Living Ahimsa: The Power of Peace World Tour on a mission to get one billion people to take the vow of ahimsa, or nonviolence. Having served more than a quarter century as a Vedic Monk belonging to India’s prestigious Veda Vyasa lineage, Mother Maya has made the decision to renounce her monastic title and spiritual moniker — Her Holiness, Sri Swami Mayatitananda — and, as she puts it, “walk a simpler and more accessible life in service of the populations in need.”

In her talks, Mother Maya guides participants in taking the vow of ahimsa, awakening the innate human power of awareness to fortify the mind of love and peace and making a personal commitment to inner harmony. To date, nearly 150,000 people have taken the vow due to her efforts.

A survivor of a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis at age 23, Mother Maya is the founder of Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, the first school for Ayurveda in the U.S., established in 1981. She is also the founder of the Living Ahimsa Foundation, India 2009, and Living Ahimsa: The Power of Peace — a program where she introduced the extraordinary practice of the Vow of Ahimsa for the imperative awakening of global consciousness. She has been a Keynote Speaker at more than 100 humanitarian and inter-faith world conferences, such as the Global Peace Congress of Women’s Spiritual Leaders in Geneva, Switzerland, and the UN Millennium Peace Summit, in New York City.

Mother Maya is the best-selling author of Ayurveda: A Life of Balance; Ayurveda: Secrets of Healing; The Path of Practice; and Women’s Power to Heal through Inner Medicine. Her newest books, Living Ahimsa Diet: Nourishing Love & Life and Love! A Daily Healing Oracle, have been published in several languages and have received notable acclaim.

Appearing alongside the Dalai Lama as a presenter, Mother Maya was recently praised by the Parliament of the World’s Religions as an outstanding World Peace Leader for her quarter-century long extraordinary work and educational services in fostering inter-faith understanding and wellness. She received the prestigious Dhanvantari International Award for her pioneering work and services in Ayurveda education. In her quarter-century long service to humanity, Mother Maya has helped thousands of people heal from devastating diseases and disorders. She is the founder of Mother Om Mission (MOM), a charitable organization in Guyana.
