Ian McEwan joins Martin Amis in speaking out against Islamism

The New York Times reports today that Ian McEwan has spoken out in defense of his friend, fellow author Martin Amis, in condemning militant Islamism (as first reported
here ).
McEwan is quoted thusly: “As soon as a writer expresses an opinion against Islamism, immediately someone on the left leaps to his feet and claims that because the majority of Muslims are dark skinned, he who criticizes it is racist.”
The spirit of the engaged, public intellectual lives on in England, but seemingly has disappeared from public discourse in America.
