Silver lining to immigrant violence in Germany

In an otherwise conventional report about the outcry against immigrant violence in Germany, writer Nicholas Kulish overlooks one very important detail that suggests relations among immigrants themselves have improved.
In "Attack Jolts Germany Into Fray on Immigrant Crime," , Kulish reports that "a 20-year-old Turk and a 17-year-old Greek were caught on videotape severely beating a 76-year-old retiree in the Munich subway."
While the beating is a horrible thing and I don't mean to make light of it, it jumps out a reader that a Turk and a Greek -- traditionally mortal enemies, at the very nexus of the Muslim/Christian divide that threatens to split civilization asunder -- joined together in this mutual effort, proving that given the right (or, in this case, the wrong) opportunity, people can overcome centuries of prejudice and work together for the common benefit (or detriment, as the case may be) of humanity.
