BERKSHIRE LIVING Magazine.
Rivers of blood flow throughout this otherwise captivating musical, with brilliant production design by longtime Johnny Depp director Tim Burton, probably more blood than in any movie other than a slasher film -- which, in some ways, this is.
Then again, it's high art -- a Stephen Sondheim musical, and a great way to introduce the mass public, including young adults and teenagers, to Sondheim, who is at his most accessible here.
Depp and Carter make a delightfully creepy couple in this dark, cartoon-like story, which sort of squares the circle of the Burton/Depp breakthrough, "Edward Scissorhands."
