Head of SAT would flunk English exam

11.20.07
In an article about whether or not today's high schoolers should take the SAT exams in Tuesday's Berkshire Eagle, Brian O'Reilly, executive director of SAT program relations for the College Board, the organization that administers the test (not "which administers the test," as the Eagle writer wrote), demonstrated why the test is a sham, and that even a top director cannot piece together a grammatically correct sentence.

O'Reilly is quoted as saying, "Unless a student is going to limit themselves to applying to that small group of colleges, they should take it."

For those who aren't sure what's wrong with his quote, his plural pronouns egregiously disagree with his singular subject ("a student" vs. "themselves" and "they").

I'd give O'Reilly a 200 on his English SAT, assuming he knows how to sign his name correctly.

Now I want all my money back from all those SAT prep classes. Not to mention the endless hours of studying and cramming for the dreaded test itself!

Justice needed to be served. Thanks for unveiling the man behind the curtain.

I feel vindicated ;-)

"Unless students are going to limit themselves to applying to that small group of colleges, they should take it" is probably the best solution to this problem.
