Coffee is a hot beverage

8.4.07
I don't care if it's 95 bleeping degrees out or if the humidity is 110 percent. When I walk into a cafe and order a cup of coffee, I don't want to have to answer the totally unnecessary question, "Would you like that hot or cold/iced?", or, more typically, given the sorry state of American conversation, "Hot or cold?"

If I WANTED an iced coffee (or iced tea), I would ASK for it.

But coffee, and tea, for that matter, are hot brewed drinks by default. Their iced versions are for children or weenies who can't stand the heat.

Besides, everyone knows that the best thing to do on a hot day is to drink a hot beverage in order to cool off.

This is quite true. Are you starting a vendetta against iced coffee now? I'm not sure I could join you... I'm part of the uncultured masses that enjoys an iced coffee when it's four million degrees outside. Sad, I know.

Back in '56 my parents took a road trip from Brooklyn to California. I remember Mom's tale of their stop at an Oklahoma diner(or some other Steinbeckian address). My folks ordered iced coffee (not an uncommon beverage in medieval Brooklyn). Moments later, the waitress placed two china mugs each with a lonely ice cube rapidly melting. "I never heard of 'aaaaced cawfee', but I guessed this was what y'all meant"

You are ascending to true curmudgeon-hood, by the way, Sethela.
