Informal lecture to focus on Beethoven's enduring appeal

Beethoven’s enduring appeal focus of forum on Sunday, July 8

(Great Barrington, Mass., July 2, 2007) – Drawing on recorded examples of Beethoven’s music, author professor, and popular lecturer Jeremy Yudkin will explore the mystery of “Beethoven’s Enduring Appeal” on Sunday, July 8, at 11 a.m., at the Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington, as part of Berkshire Living’s award-winning “Rest of the Story” free public forum series.

A professor of music at Boston and Oxford universities, where his courses range in topic from Bach to the Beatles, Yudkin teaches the Summer Music Seminars at the Lenox Library during the Tanglewood season. His presentation at the Triplex will focus in part on this summer’s extensive Beethoven programming at Tanglewood.

“Jeremy is one of those rare academics whose expertise is without question yet who has a gift for explaining the most arcane musical points in language that any curious layperson can understand,” said Berkshire Living editor-in-chief Seth Rogovoy, who will moderate the event. “That, plus he’s got a great sense of humor, and while he totally respects the music, he doesn’t take his subject matter or himself too seriously, which makes his talks all the more enjoyable.”

Each month, Berkshire Living, an award-winning regional lifestyle and culture magazine, and the Triplex join forces to present free public forums based on an article running in the concurrent issue of the magazine. Yudkin is the author of “The Enduring Ludwig” in the July special summer performing arts issue. For more information, call Berkshire Living at 413.528.3600.
