Bob Dylan rehearses at Bardavon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Bob Dylan Plays the Bardavon in closed rehearsals for U.S. tour

(Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) In another major coup for the Bardavon 1869 Opera House, and for the third time in just sixteen months, Bob Dylan and his band spent four days this week (June 18-21) rehearsing on the Bardavon’s famous stage prior to a U.S. tour which begins Friday June 22 in Atlantic City.

For New York State’s oldest theatre which claims “legendary performances since 1869” and where Mark Twain, Houdini, Sarah Bernhardt, John Philip Sousa, George M. Cohan Teddy Roosevelt, Buffalo Bill Cody, Frank Sinatra and as recently as 2003 Al Pacino tried out his Broadway production of Salome, you would think booking big stars would not be a big deal. But Bardavon Executive Director Chris Silva, who is a life-long Dylan fan, said he found out when Dylan was last at the Bardavon in March that he wanted to come back to rehearse in the theatre again, “I was thrilled of course. Obviously the Bardavon has become Bob’s favorite place to play on the east coast. He’s spent thirteen days here over the last year or so. Not too many theaters can make that claim.”

Dylan brought with him a first class line up of musicians including everyone from his most recent Grammy winning CD Modern Times (which was rehearsed at the Bardavon in 2006) : Tony Garnier (Bass), George Receli (Drums), Don Herron (Steel Guitar, Fiddle), Stu Kimball (Guitar) and Denny Freeman (Guitar).

Silva, who was allowed to watch the famously reclusive artist in rehearsal from the wings, reported that, “Just like before, rehearsals were all business, working 3-4 hour stretches. They sounded really great too! Everyone in the band and all of Dylan’s crew and support are very comfortable and relaxed here.” And Dylan did personally thank Silva at the end of the week, complimented him on the Bardavon and said he’d be back….again.

wow! imagine Bob giving YOU a compliment! unreal. lookin forward to the big show at the Pines on Tuesday. The last stop there in 2003 was magical. I was just listening to it on CD the other night and you can hear crickets before Boots of Spanish Leather.

He not busy being born is busy touring.

I just wish he'd lose the Hank Williams suit. One of Dylan's hallmarks early on was his constant change. Seeing a show today is no different than seeing him ten years ago. Sigh....
