Health-care crisis to be focus of forum

Health-care crisis to be focus of forum on Sunday, December 10

(Great Barrington, Mass., December 1, 2006) – Efforts to provide health care to the uninsured will be the topic of “Serving the Health Needs of the Uninsured,” on Sunday, December 10, at 11 a.m. at the Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington, as part of “The Rest of the Story” series, the free public forum co-presented by Berkshire Living magazine and the Triplex.

Representatives of the leading agencies dealing with this crisis, including Matthew Mandel, MD, VIM board member and co-medical director of the VIM clinic; Joyce Toth, executive director of Community Health Programs; and Cheryl Thomson, program director for Advocacy for Access at Fairview Hospital, will be on hand to discuss the positive strides that have been made in providing health care to the insured or underinsured, and the challenges that remain. The panel will be moderated by Berkshire Living editor-in-chief Seth Rogovoy, and will include plenty of time for audience members to ask questions and interact with the panelists.

The event grows out of “Intensive Care,” an article about VIM by Berkshire Living managing editor Chris Newbound, in the Nov/Dec second-anniversary issue of the award-winning magazine. Each month, the Triplex and Berkshire Living, an award-winning regional lifestyle and culture magazine, join forces to present free public forums based on an article running in the concurrent issue of the magazine. The next event in the series features photographer Gregory Crewdson, who will be profiled in the Jan/Feb 2007 issue, in a co-presentation with the Berkshire Museum, and takes place at the Triplex on Sunday, February 18.
