Boozing it up at Bennigan's

10.15.06
With a Bennigan's casual dining franchise set to open soon in the former Lenox Shops in Lenox, Mass., it's important to know what the place is about.

A recent Wall Street Journal article suggests that Bennigan's is set to push alcohol-related sales over all others.

"Cash-strapped consumers are eating out less often, leading Bennigan's, Applebee's and other so-called casual-dining chains to lean harder on some of their most profitable menu items: alcoholic drinks," says the Journal article, continuing, "Metromedia Restaurant Group's Bennigan's Grill & Tavern unit last month rolled out a menu of inexpensive "bar bites," in an effort to target 25- to 45-year-old working professionals and singles. Bennigan's goal is to boost alcohol sales to 25% of its total sales, up from the current 20%."

You're implying there's something wrong with that? I live in Lenox and am welcoming a place to have a beer or two and some munchies and not have to pay $30 when I'm done... Is the tourist-gouging behavior of the existing Lenox establishments something we should "know about" as well?

Usually you make my ears bleed Rogovoy, with your NPR segment. Now you're polluting my vision. You know, there's finally a place to grab a few drinks in Lenox - besides the obviously over-priced bars, or the shady Heritage House (which should be torn down) - and you're putting a negative spin on the whole thing. Your title "Boozing it up at Bennigan's" is shameful, and the implications are not good whatsoever. Folks "booze it up" all over Berkshire County, but you haven't mentioned any of that. Thanks very much.
