Intern program pays in writing dividend

NORTH ADAMS — Daniel DuBois expected his summer internship at Berkshire Living magazine to be routine — answering phones, filing papers and maybe some fact checking. He never anticipated it would lead to a kayaking trip down the Housatonic River and published article in this month's edition.

"I walked in the first day and saw they had a desk and a computer for me. I didn't even expect that. I just thought it would be mostly secretarial work," the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts senior said. "But within the first two weeks there I had my first assignment. It was a completely nerve-wracking experience. I'd never written anything for a newspaper, never mind a magazine."
