Two klezmer greats unite for rare duo concert

Hankus Netsky and Michael Alpert, two of the pioneers of the klezmer revival, team up for a rare duo concert this Saturday, October 1, at the Rosendale Cafe in Rosendale, N.Y., as part of a weekend-long celebration of Jewish music at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
It is no exaggeration to say that the work of these two musicians, bandleaders, composers, and musicologists, has been absolutely essential to reviving interest in klezmer and moving the music ahead into a full-fledged renaissance. Their groups, including the Klezmer Conservatory Band (Netsky) and Brave Old World (Alpert) are two of the greatest klezmer bands in the world -- the equivalent of the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony, or the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
