The Rest of the Story

6/2/05
BERKSHIRE LIVING MAGAZINE AND TRIPLEX MOVIE THEATER TO INAUGURATE MONTHLY FORUM WITH DISCUSSION ON COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE

(Great Barrington, Mass., June 3, 2005) – “Preserving Local Farms: Community Supported Agriculture” will be the topic of the first in a new series of public forums entitled “The Rest of the Story,” a co-presentation of Berkshire Living magazine and the Triplex Cinema, to be held at the Triplex on Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The forum will bring together a panel of farmers using the community-supported farming model, as well as other regional experts on local agriculture, including Danielle Mullen, executive director of Berkshire Grown, Billie Best, executive director of the Regional Farm and Food Project, and Susan Witt, executive director of the E.F. Schumacher Society.

The forum, the first in a series of such events that will expand upon articles running in Berkshire Living, a new regional lifestyle and culture magazine, will be moderated by Berkshire Living editor-in-chief Seth Rogovoy, and will also include a slide show featuring photographs of community-supported agriculture (CSA) farms in the region by world-renowned photographer Clemens Kalischer of Stockbridge.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with the Triplex and to be kicking off this new series with a discussion of an issue that goes to the heart of what living in the Berkshires and Berkshire Living is all about,” said Rogovoy, himself a long-time shareholder in and former board member of Caretaker Farm CSA in Williamstown. “As the article in the June issue makes clear, community-supported agriculture got an early foothold here in the Berkshires, and remains one of the most efficient ways to preserve and perpetuate local farming.”

Each month, the Triplex and Berkshire Living will join forces to present public forums based on an article running in the concurrent issue of the magazine. Upcoming forums include discussions about wireless hotspots on July 17, and local wineries, featuring a wine-tasting, on August 21.

Tickets for “The Rest of the Story” are $6 from the Triplex box office (413.528.8885, www.thetriplex.com); for more information, call Berkshire Living at 413.528.3600.
