(Eagle Watch No.2) Letter of the week

May 31, 2005
Advice for new editor

"I would like to point out to Tim Farkas, newly appointed executive editor, that The Berkshire Eagle is a newspaper...."READ MORE

Short and potent, this letter sums it up the problem with the Eagle these days. There won't be any Pulitzer Prizes earned for the fluffernutter diet we've been served lately.

My town, like many, has suffered from the lack of local coverage. Without any vehicle for communicating the issues and actions of local government, the town is full of rumors and bad information.

We send our subscription and advertising dollars to the Eagle in Pittsfield, and it sends its profits to Colorado, and our town gets too little in news reporting back in return. It is a bad bargain.

Truth, I had a free sample for a few months (unsolicited by the way) and found the inconvenience of disposing of the paper exceeded the value proposition even at $0. dlm
