Help Me Combat Human Trafficking

3.9.11

Please Help Me Stop Human Trafficking

I’ll do the yoga; you write the check. Together we will do our part to support efforts to stop human trafficking in India, where three million children are enslaved as sex workers, and where every day 200 women and girls enter prostitution, 80% of them doing so against their will as victims of trafficking.

On Friday, March 11, at 6 p.m., I will join other volunteers at Sruti Berkshire Yoga Center in Great Barrington, Mass., as part of Yoga Stops Traffick, a global effort to bring awareness of and raise funds to help combat human trafficking and show support to its millions of victims.

At Sruti, we will perform Sun Salutations, a basic sequence of yoga postures, to raise money for the Odanadi Seva Trust, a pioneering anti-trafficking organization based in Mysore, South India – the home of ashtanga yoga -- working for the rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of trafficked women and children.

I am appealing to you to sponsor me in my effort. I will perform a certain number of Sun Salutations divisible by the number 108. Why 108? Good question. Click here to read about the significance of the number 108.

In keeping with the significance of 108, I am asking that you please write a check for some amount divisible by 108 -- $13, $27, $54, or $108, for example – payable to Sruti Berkshire Yoga Center.

Include a note with your check that it is for the Yoga Stops Traffick project and that you are one of my sponsors. Please mail the check to Sruti at 33 Railroad Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.

Here is more information about the event and about Odanadi.
