Klezmer music has always reflected the particular language and accent of its time. In the multimedia performance Rockin’ the Shtetl, Seth Rogovoy -- author of The Essential Klezmer, the all-time bestselling guide to the Jewish roots and soul music -- traces the history and sounds of klezmer from its Old World, Eastern European origins in ritualistic wedding music through its immigration to America, where it mingled with American jazz and swing before being revived in the late twentieth century as a vital, authentic form of personal and cultural expression.
This program, which includes a question-and-answer session and a booksigning, is open to the public. A donation of $12.00 for members and $15 for non-members is requested.
For more information call Hevreh at 413-528-6378.
