GIRLS IN TROUBLE TO PERFORM AT CLUB HELSINKI on OCTOBER 19

9.24.08

Alicia Jo Rabins brings her new indie-folk outfit, Girls in Trouble, to Club Helsinki in Great Barrington, Mass., on October 19

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass., September 24, 2008) -- Girls in Trouble, a four-piece indie-folk band led by singer/songwriter/bandleader Alicia Jo Rabins of Brooklyn, N.Y., will perform its New England debut at Great Barrington’s Club Helsinki on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at 7.

Alicia Jo Rabins is familiar to Berkshire audiences as a founding member of folk supergroup The Mammals. A classically trained violinist, she also performs with acclaimed klezmer-rock band, Golem. Other members of Girls in Trouble include organist Jascha Hoffman, drummer Tim Monagham (also of Golem) and upright bassist Aaron Hartman (of Old Time Relijun.)

Girls in Trouble plays original songs based on some of the darker Bible stories about women. Each song is from the perspective of a different character in a difficult situation: alone with the enemy general; stricken with leprosy; or on top of a mountain, about to be sacrificed by her father.

Girls in Trouble began as a thesis project for a master’s degree in theology, growing out of Rabins’s years of studying and teaching ancient Jewish texts in Jerusalem, Northampton, and New York City. The band recently signed with New York’s JDub Records, home to such artists as Matisyahu and Balkan Beat Box. The group will record its debut album in November.

For tickets to the show call Club Helsinki at 413.528.3394.
