Weekend Highlights
9.21.07
• Club Helsinki in Great Barrington presents the renowned singer-songwriter, Richard Shindell, tonight. Shindell is best known for his narrative-style songs, many of which are historical but some of which are also contemporary and topical. Shindell recently released an album of all cover tunes by his greatest influences, including numbers by Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen, and he’ll undoubtedly throw a few of those numbers into his set.
• Saturday night Helsinki presents rock reggae dance band Trumystic from New York, and Sunday night the award-winning Hunger Mountain Boys, a throwback to the early days of country music’s brother duos.
• At Simon’s Rock College on Saturday night, the Faculty Recital series presents Anne Legene, Laurence Wallach, and guest Ron Gorevic performing duos and trios by Mozart Schubert, Shostakovich, and Faure, at 8, in a concert that’s free and open to the public at the Kellogg Music Center.
• And speaking of free and open to the public, on Sunday morning at 11, Berkshire Living Magazine and the Triplex Cinema team up to present “Hot Yoga,” a discussion about the ancient discipline featuring several of the region’s leading teachers and practitioners, as part of Berkshire Living’s award-winning Rest of the Story series.
• On Sunday, Music Mountain in Falls Village, Connecticut, continues its fall season with Dumka, a group performing Ukrainian sacred music and Ukrainian folk songs, as part of the Sunday Afternoon Choral Concert Series at 3 p.m.
• Also on Sunday, award winning poet Martin Espada will read as part of the Church Hill Performance Series at the West Cummington Church at 5.
• The Colonial in Pittsfield presents “Say Goodnight Gracie,” a solo performance with Don McArt portraying comedian George Burns, on Sunday at 2 and 7.
• And over in Northampton, wacky singer-songwriter Nellie McKay celebrates the release of her new CD, Obligatory Villagers, at the Iron Horse on Monday night at 7.
