Yesterday France, today the Pope

9.16.06
Outrage throughout the Muslim world against the Pope for statements he made allegedly characterizing Islam as a violent religion wound up quickly knocking France out of first place in the "who do we hate most today" stakes in the Islamist world.

The Pope's plain-spoken, historical reference to a conversation that took place between 14th-century Byzantine emperor and a Muslim interlocutor -- the point of which, by the way, was to condemn violence as a tool of religious domination -- resulted in protests throughout the increasingly testy Islamic world.

It's getting to the point where the Islamic thought police are carrying on such a successful campaign of intimidation in the service of historical revisionism that soon anyone who simply acknowledges the basic historical facts of the Muslim conquest of Arabia, Northern Africa, and Southern Europe, as well as the long-held and increasingly oft-stated desire to restore this "ummah" will lead to politically correct totalitarian horrors the likes of which have perhaps never been seen in all of history.

Indeed, unfortunately, the Pope issued something of an apology today.

Oh, and in case anyone didn't notice, two suicide attacks meant to sabotage Yemen's oil refineries were foiled yesterday, as Al Qaeda's war against the world continues full steam ahead.
