Why I can't stand Maureen Dowd

Today's New York Times op-ed piece by columnist Maureen Dowd, "Much Ado About Reading" , is the perfect example of why I can't stand her and find her work almost impossible to read.
In an otherwise and unusually trenchant and smart column about President Bush's reading habits -- with terrific quotes about the lessons to be learned and applied to current events from reading Shakespeare in an interview with Stephen Greenblatt, the Harvard professor and author of Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare, Dowd undermines herself with her childish habit of referring to Bush as "W."
Her smart-aleckiness, which goes back to when she was writing about President Clinton and calling him "Bubba," and extends to referring to Donald Rumsfeld as "Rummy" -- this playground-like childishness is just totally unbecoming of civil discourse, and what's worse, just makes her seem petty and stupid, which presumably she's not.
