STEELY DAN, MICHAEL McDONALD TO PLAY PITTSFIELD

4.22.06
The ROGOVOY REPORT has learned that the long-touted, late-August concert at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass., will feature a double-bill of STEELY DAN and MICHAEL McDONALD, who for a short time in the 1970s was a keyboardist and backup vocalist with the group. The concert will take place on Friday, August 25.

The two acts are touring the U.S. together this summer.

This morning's Berkshire Eagle reports that an official announcement of the concert is expected within a few days. ("Concert news coming 'soon' ")

This morning's Eagle article also continues to perpetuate the year-old myth that Gene Fein of Berkshire Music Glen Productions was the promoter of last summer's Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson concert at Wahconah Park.

In fact, that concert was produced by MASS CONCERTS , an eastern-Mass. based concert promoter that subcontracted with Fein to handle local affairs with the City of Pittsfield.

For Fein to claim that he promoted that concert would be analogous to your electrician's assistant claiming he built your house.

Fein can, however, take full credit for a failed summer 2004 concert series at Bousquet Ski Area in Pittsfield that boasted KC and the Sunshine Band, the Doobie Brothers, and a reggae festival.

The series was a commercial and artistic flop, with attendance far below Fein's initial projections of 5,000 . Attendance at most concerts in the series failed to top 1,000; so few tickets were sold for a show by the Neville Brothers that the concert had to be moved to a smaller, indoor location, where about 250 people attended.

Since that time, Fein's projections that in two years time he'd be presenting over a dozen shows per summer in Pittsfield have failed to bear fruit.
