“Grown Backwards” (Nonesuch)
On his latest solo album, Talking Heads founder David Byrne refines his restless musical sensibility – which has included funk, contemporary classical, Latin, electronica, and opera – into a nearly-coherent new brand of chamber-rock that incorporates all of these influences and makes them seem natural bedfellows. The result is a highly individualistic yet accessible portrait, 15 new tracks including several arias and a 10-minute Talking Heads throwback called “Lazy,” which Byrne’s musical imagination is anything but.
