“So Long” (Lovepiemusic)
Marry the pop-rock hooks of Sheryl Crow with the sulky personality of Dar Williams and give it a Spanish tinge and you wind up with Nini Camps, a first generation Cuban-American born and raised in Miami. Producer David Seitz gives Camps’s songs state-of-the-art, radio-ready pop orchestrations that don’t get in the way of her organic vocals. Nothing could get in the way of her catchy melodies, and with occasional jaunts into Spanish (“Mi Amor” and a full-blown, salsa-fied version of “Guantanamera”) and some bluesy slide guitar, Camps always comes up with something fresh.
