“The Hang Ups” (Trampoline)

Lead singer-songwriter Brian Tighe writes melodies with lines long enough to vie with some of Elvis Costello’s miniature epics, and his bandmates dress them up in harmonies, piano chords and rhythms bouncy enough to please any fan of Ben Folds Five or the Beatles. The Minneapolis band has made an old-fashioned pop-rock record that suggests in the Midwest they’ve swapped their Nirvana albums for the Kinks. Wistful enough to please fans of Belle and Sebastian.
